ASTM D2271 Test Method for Preliminary Examination of Hydraulic Fluids (Wear Test)
9. Report
9.1 Report the following information:
9.1.1 The total difference in the weight of the cam ring and the twelve vanes in milligrams of wear.

NOTE 17 - Operation of the test shall be continuous for standard tests. While this test is essentially designed to determine the wear preventative characteristics of hydraulic fluids, flow data should be taken to determine pump efficiency at periods during the test run. In addition, a judicious examination of pertinent fluid characteristics on small samples taken periodically will provide valuable data on the stability of the fluid.

9.1.2 Any unusual observations on wear, scuffing, deposits, deterioration of seals, and the like.

10. Precision and Bias
10.1 Precision - It is not practical to specify the precision of the procedure in Test Method D2271 for measuring weight loss of the cam ring and vanes because the test length is long (1000 h) and the expense involved in completing a test matrix.

10.2 Bias - Bias for the procedure in Test Method D2271 for measuring weight loss of the cam ring and vanes cannot be determined because there are no standard reference oils applicable to this procedure.
