The Cold Cranking Simulator (CCS) has been shown to be a relatively inexpensive, fast and accurate instrument for measurement of engine oil viscosity at low temperatures. ASTM cooperative work with the CCS has resulted in establishment of a tentative method D5293 for motor oil viscosity within a range of 1500mPa•s to 27000mPa•s, at temperatures from-35°C to-5°C
